UAE Team Emirates announced its ambitious goal of reaching net-zero by 2030 at COP28

The CEO and team principal of UAE Team Emirates, Mauro Gianetti, declared the squad's audacious objective of being net-zero by 2030 on Wednesday at the COP29 meeting. The team's commitment to setting the standard for sustainable sports and fostering a more environmentally conscious future was emphasised in the announcement, which also emphasised that it was the first Professional Cycling Team to achieve Carbon Neutrality, a feat that was accomplished after the 2023 season.

UAE Team Emirates, to slow down global climate change, wants to attain net zero, which will require it to cut its greenhouse gas emissions annually. A significant decrease in CO2 is part of the strategy plan for the whole value chain.

Through the integration of environmentally conscious practises into its operations, including waste minimization, travel logistics optimisation, and the adoption of new energy-efficient technologies, the organisation has committed to reducing its environmental impact and actively participating in community initiatives that raise awareness of environmental issues among team and sport supporters.

The entire crew and its riders, who will all turn into advocates for the project, are proud of the team's efforts to increase sustainability. In addition to contributing to the team's carbon emission reduction, the riders will educate the next generation and encourage them to support the worldwide movement as sustainability ambassadors.

The team commissioned a third-party audit in addition to discussing its long-term goals in order to have a better understanding of its present carbon impact. The team calculated its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for the whole 2022 season, which came to 224,980 CO2 TONNE, by using the Financial Control Approach.

The team has invested in several carbon-neutral activations, collaborations, and programmes that are assisting in the avoidance, reduction, or removal of greenhouse gases from our atmosphere to retroactively offset these emissions since determining its yearly carbon footprint. UAE Team Emirates is working on five worldwide initiatives that will help them get certified as a Carbon Neutral Company.
