UAE's Cyber Security Council urges residents to be cautious before posting a video or picture on social media

Sharing images online could have serious consequences. Scammers may be able to obtain personal information from your memories by using sophisticated technology in the world of fraud and scams. The UAE's Cyber Security Council has issued an advisory, asking citizens to reconsider sharing a picture or video on social media. Hackers can take vital information from just your photos like Age, Gender, Location, Biometric data, Job position, Medical details, Unique identifiers

The following must be considered when uploading pictures and videos on the internet.

List of things you can do:

- Review and adjust your privacy settings in order to manage who has access to your content,

- Remove any private information that may have been included in a photo or video.

- Apply encryption software and take precautionary security precautions.

- Think twice before sharing anything online.

List of things you must not do:

- Share no private images or videos online.

- Avoid having your visual material automatically sync with the cloud since this may reveal private information about you that you were not intending to share.

- Avoid using passwords that are simple or those you've used before since this might leave your account open to hacker assaults.

Oversharing could lead to serious threats like identity theft, privacy violations, exposure to cyber threats, and compromised physical safety. Residents of the United Arab Emirates have access to many platforms to report cybercrimes.
