UAE residents are urged to prioritize the registration and renewal of their Emirates ID card

Residents in the United Arab Emirates are reminded to make registering and renewing their Emirates ID cards a top priority, as failure to do so may result in fines of Dh20 per day if the card is not renewed or registered within 30 days of the expiration date. In addition to being required for all nationals and foreign visitors to the nation, the Emirates ID is also essential for gaining access to a number of services.

There are a total of 14 infractions related to Emirates ID and UAE visa services, according to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP). Fines vary from Dh20 per day to an astounding Dh20,000, depending on the type of infraction.

Six of the infractions, which are primarily related to residence and foreign affairs services, carry a Dh500 fine each. Among them are:

- submitting transactions by a company representative that do not belong to the company.

- utilizing the e-dirham system to enter false data.

- The card of the company representative has expired.

- not submitting transactions with the necessary card on hand.

- The service center work system is being violated.

- failure to honor promises given to the ICP.

A Dh5,000 punishment is further imposed for three serious infractions, which are as follows:

- Obstructing ICP employees.

- Failure to pay necessary fees for ICP services.

- Misuse of the system.

If the Emirates ID is not renewed or registered within the allotted time, fines will start to accrue at Dh20 per day and could reach Dh1,000 in total. Incomplete requests will be fined Dh100, and submitting fraudulent information will result in a Dh3,000 fine. Moreover, Dh20,000 in fines may be incurred for granting visas or permits to companies that never existed.

Residents who have an unfortunate loss or damage to their Emirates ID must apply for a replacement, which costs Dh300 plus additional fees based on the mode of submission.

Residents may be able to ask for specific circumstances to be met in order to avoid paying late renewal penalties. Among them are:

- people who have been abroad for longer than three months.

- individuals deported as a result of a court order or administrative decision.

- Residents who obtained nationality before receiving an identity card.

- disabled people or those confined to bed, as shown by a medical certificate.

- diplomatic personnel along with their heirs.

- Senior citizens (70 years of age and above) are not permitted to visit customer satisfaction centers.

- Emiratis who are covered by the social security system must provide proof of their income.

In situations where computer malfunctions cause delays, people can potentially be eligible for a waiver of their penalty.
