UAE residents are set to get one day off for Arafah day, and three days off for the Eid Al Adha

On Friday, June 7, a snapshot of the crescent of the month of Dhul Hijjah 1445 was taken from Abu Dhabi.

The Al-Khatim Astronomical Observatory took a picture of the dim crescent around 10 a.m. UAE time (6 a.m. GMT), which the UAE's Astronomy Centre published on social media.

The government's schedule of public holidays states that UAE citizens would have one day off for Arafah Day and three days off for Eid Al Adha.

Islamic nations use local moon sightings to commemorate Eid Al Adha and mark the beginning of the month of Dhul Hijjah. On Thursday, June 6, a crescent Moon that marks the beginning of Dhul Hijjah was sighted in Saudi Arabia.

The Feast of Sacrifice, or Eid Al Adha, is observed with special prayers. Muslims celebrate the test of faith given to Prophet Ibrahim by slaughtering livestock, generally goats, sheep, cows, or camels.

The occasion honours Prophet Ibrahim's readiness to offer his son as a sacrifice in obedience to Allah's desire. Allah gave him a ram before the sacrifice took place, which the prophet subsequently killed.
