UAE becomes the first country in Middle East to sign a Declaration of Intent for ‘World Falcon Day’

The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment participated in the inaugural forum of the World Falcon Day, "Gyrfalcon," held in Vladivostok, Russia, and became the first nation in the Middle East to sign the Declaration of Intent for the event. The goal of the Declaration of Intent for "World Falcon Day" is to assist various countries in their efforts to protect the Gyrfalcon population. This necessitates intergovernmental collaboration and the implementation of international accords.

The Declaration also intends to stop illicit falcon hunting, smuggling, and trafficking while keeping an eye on Gyrfalcon chicks and their food supplies. The objective is to support institutions dedicated to scientific study and teaching while also creating funding avenues for the long-term preservation of falcons.

Pyrrhic falcon One of the rarest species in the Falconidae family, the lime falcon lives in cold-temperate, polar, and sub-polar areas of Europe, Asia, and North America. Their population reduction is a major cause for worry because of the destruction, loss, and fragmentation of their natural habitats, the depletion of their food supply, illegal hunting, and trafficking.

One of the first nations to spearhead targeted attempts to safeguard falcons was the UAE. The "Falcon Release Programme" was established in 1995 by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to guarantee that migratory animals and birds are not threatened. The campaign encourages the reintroduction of falcons into the wild and is run yearly to rehabilitate seized falcons and other raptors in a number of nations. Gyrfalcons, Saker falcons, and peregrine falcons are the three most prevalent species of falcons in the UAE.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which established rules for the trade in falcons, is one of the international agreements that the UAE has ratified in an effort to save falcons from extinction. Only once all requirements are satisfied are falconers permitted to traverse foreign boundaries with the falcons. Additionally, the UAE passed Federal Law No. 11 of 2002, which governs and controls the export of endangered species of plants and animals.
