Traditional dhows at Sharjah Aquarium offered residents a delightful voyage during National Day celebrations

To celebrate UAE National Day, many expat and Emirati families set out on a unique marine adventure. An eye-catching display of colour was witnessed on the waterways as up to 26 traditional dhows departed from the Sharjah Aquarium.

The event, which was hosted by Sharjah Museums, began at 3 p.m. and provided guests with a wonderful three-hour ride towards Flag Island, Khalid Lagoon, and Qasba Canal against the backdrop of the Sharjah cityscape.

The air was filled with the sweet sounds of ancient melodies performed on the dhows' speakers by a large number of locals strumming traditional instruments. Residents excitedly hoisted their own UAE flags as the dhows sailed along the sea, wearing the colours of the nation. The adorned abras were escorted by several rescue workers on jet skis, guaranteeing a safe and joyful ride for all passengers.
