The initiative to register citizens’ unlicensed weapons and firearms has been relaunched

The Supreme Council for National Security's Weapons and Hazardous Substances Offices, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, have re-launched the drive to register citizens' unlicensed weapons and guns. This was revealed at a recent press conference in Ras Al Khaimah in the presence of Mohamed Suhail Al Neyadi, Director General of the Weapons and Hazardous Substances Office, and Lieutenant Colonel Abdulrahman Ali Al Mansouri, Acting Director of the Ministry of Interior's Weapons and Explosives Directorate.

The initiative, which was re-launched on August 2 for a three-month period, aims to provide citizens who own unlicensed weapons with an opportunity to adjust the status of their unlicensed weapons and ammunition in accordance with the law, by exempting them from legal accountability in the event of registration within the specified deadline, according to Wam.

Al Neyadi emphasised the importance of registering unlicensed weapons in accordance with the law, particularly because the initiative allows violators of the provisions of Federal Decree-Law No. (17) of 2019 Concerning Weapons, Ammunition, Explosives, Military Hardware, and Hazardous Materials to register unlicensed weapons and ammunition in their possession in order to avoid legal action. The effort promotes citizens' rights to obtain firearms and ammunition in conformity with the country's laws, rules, and decisions.

In this regard, Al Neyadi announced the start of the UAE Licenced Weapons Shooting Championship for adults and adolescents, which will be organised by the Weapons and Hazardous Substances Offices, on October 1. The competition will be hosted at five clubs, according to him: Al Forsan International Sports Resort, Al Dhafra Shooting Club, Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club, Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club, and Ajman Police Shooting and Sports Club.

According to Al Neyadi, the adult weapons allowed to compete in the tournament are the 9mm pistol, shotgun, 223 rifle, 308 rifle, and Scotton rifle, provided that these weapons are licenced and that the shooter, whether male or female, is a citizen of the country and is 21 or older. As for the kids, Al Neyadi stated that their competition would be in the Scotton rifle category for the age groups of 12 to 15 years and 16 to 20 years, noting that the tournament specifics will be released later.

In this regard, the Weapons and Hazardous Substances Office encouraged citizens to follow the initiative's Instagram account "@Aldar_aman" and visit the website "www.aldaraman.ae" to learn more about the weapons registration initiative and the UAE Licenced Weapons Shooting Championship, as well as the details of UAE laws governing weapons, ammunition, explosives, military hardware, and hazardous materials.

The Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Weapons and Hazardous Substances Office, has assigned a phone number to the initiative in order to answer residents' questions concerning the registration of weapons and ammunition, as well as the processes that must be followed. As a result, citizens may get answers to their questions by dialling the toll-free number 8005000.
