The first of seven spires of Abu Dhabi's spectacular Hindu temple has risen. The ancient temple composed of pink sandstones and white marble, BAPS Hindu Mandir, is being built on 27 acres of land near Abu Mureikha, off the Dubai-Abu Dhabi motorway. The last phase of building of the Middle East's only traditional Hindu stone temple is underway, with a ceremonial opening scheduled for February 14, next year.
Among the many distinctive elements of Abu Dhabi's first temple are its seven spires, each symbolising a different Emirate of the UAE. The complex will include a visitor's centre, prayer halls, a library, a classroom, a community centre, majilis, an amphitheatre, play areas, gardens, books and gift stores, a food court, big parking spaces, and other amenities.
