03 May 2023
NewsPositive news for commuters using Sharjah's intercity buses: from today, May 2, rates have been cut by up to Dh3 for each travel. Additionally, all intercity bus fares will be reduced, according to Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), "based on lower fuel prices."
According to the Khaleej Times' analysis of the tariff matrix, the bus fare from Rolla, Sharjah, to Mall of the Emirates in Dubai has decreased by Dh3, from Dh20 to Dh17. The cost of the Route 112 and Route 114 bus tickets has decreased from Dh8 to Dh6 and Dh7 to Dh6, respectively.
According to the origin and destination, Route 115 offers savings ranging from Dh2 to Dh3, depending on the distance travelled. Longer pauses are now Dh27 instead of Dh30, while shorter routes are now Dh6 instead of Dh8.
Between Dh2 and Dh3, fares for Routes 116, 611, and 616 have also decreased. Additionally, commuters on Routes 113, 308, 309, 313, 117, 118, and 811 will save between Dh2 and Dh3 per trip. However, Route 811 (between Shuwaib and Al Ain) is still at Dh10.
Lower diesel prices in the UAE:
Since March, there have been three consecutive months of lower diesel prices in the UAE.
May's price for a litre of fuel is merely Dh2.91 compared to Dh3.03 in April, a 12-fil decrease. An 11 fils reduction from the Dh3.14 per litre of fuel in March was also seen last month.
In February, the cost of diesel per litre was Dh3.38, and in the past three months, the price has decreased by about half a dirham or 47 fils.
It is anticipated that this would not only cut bus tickets but also lower the cost of transporting consumer products, which will lower the cost of food for locals in May.
Super 98 fuel will cost Dh3.16 per gallon in May 2023, up from Dh3.01 in April. Similar price increases have been made to Special 95 fuel (from Dh2.90 to Dh3.05 per litre) and E-Plus (from Dh2.82 to Dh2.97 per litre).
