News EventStargazers are in for a treat this August as a Supermoon, Micro Moon and Blue Moon will all appear in the night sky. The first to arrive will be Supermoon which will be visible on the night of Tuesday, August 1. When a Full Moon coincides with the Moon's closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, this is known as a supermoon. A Supermoon will appear larger and brighter than other full moons.
Next in line is the New Micromoon which will glow in the Dubai night sky on Wednesday, August 16. New Moon happens when it is at the farthest point from Earth (which, in astronomy, is named the apogee). Because the Micromoon on Wednesday, August 16 is a New Moon, the side of the Moon facing Earth will not be lit by the Sun, making it undetectable with or without a telescope or binoculars.
There will then be the second Full Moon, a Blue Moon, rising on Thursday, August 31 This is guaranteed to capture your attention because the August Blue Moon will also be a SuperMoon (similar to the one seen on Tuesday, August 1).
