Students and young researchers under 21 in UAE do not have to pay registration fees to file patents

Students and young researchers under the age of 21 in the UAE are not required to pay registration costs when filing patent applications. The 'Patent Hive' project, which was announced by the Ministry of Economy on Monday, intends to increase patent granting rates and encourage inventors to register for patents by waiving registration fees and streamlining the registration procedure.

This project aims to improve the UAE's competitiveness in innovation and creativity, both regionally and worldwide. To speed up the registration process, the "Patent Hive" project reduces the time required to register patents from 42 months to 6 months, helping to meet the goal of increasing the number of registered patents from 4,481 to 6,000 by 2026 and cementing the UAE's position as a global innovation hub.

The project also includes specialised training programmes and technical consultations provided by the Ministry of Economy in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to help national cadres build their capacities and raise their awareness of the value of intellectual property. The "Patent Hive" project was inaugurated in the presence of representatives from the country's universities and research institutes to promote and encourage innovators to register patents and improve the UAE's competitiveness in the sectors of innovation and creativity.
