Some Daman health insurance holders will have to pay higher premiums and co-payments starting July 1

Beginning on July 1, certain Daman health insurance subscribers will be required to pay more premiums and co-payments for specific procedures. However, it was announced on Friday that coverage will be extended to include prestigious medical facilities in Abu Dhabi.

The basic health insurance premium for domestic assistants under 60 who are sponsored by Emiratis now costs Dh750 instead of Dh600. The notice also states that the fundamental strategy for other categories has been modified. However, further information on premiums has not yet been verified.

Additionally, certain co-payments will go up. According to a customer support representative on Daman's hotline, basic plan members are now exempt from paying customary additional costs for in-patient care and same-day procedures unless they exceed the insurance coverage. However, after the adjustment, people covered by the basic coverage will have to pay Dh200 for each in-patient treatment and Dh500 for one-day procedures.

According to the Daman staff member, individuals in this group are currently only required to pay Dh10 for diagnostic services and laboratory testing, on top of the Dh20 co-payment for in-person consultations. With the modification, a co-payment of 20% will be charged for certain tests, up to a maximum of Dh50 each visit. The annual cost of medication coverage is Dh1,500, plus a 30% co-payment.

The National Health Insurance – Daman is expanding the coverage of the basic plan to include premium facilities, which is why these charge hikes are occurring.

Those who use the plan will now have access to top-notch medical facilities. Among them are Centres of Excellence (CoE) like the following:

- Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a CoE for adult stroke and heart surgery.

- A CoE for stroke is Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC).

- SKMC, a Centre of Excellence for paediatric cardiac surgery.

In addition to receiving Dh250,000 in yearly health insurance coverage, residents who subscribe to this plan will have access to over 1,250 healthcare institutions located throughout the Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra regions for emergency treatment and medical attention.

The policy modifications are a result of the local government rules aimed at guaranteeing community members the best medical care available in the emirate.
