Sharjah: Sharjah Police have introduced an SOS smartwatch to assist in tracking and supporting drug victims, addressing both the physical and psychological effects of addiction.
The innovative device monitors vital signs and can automatically alert emergency services in case of an overdose.
Equipped with SOS and GPS systems, the smartwatch tracks users’ locations and detects health changes such as reduced physical activity, abnormal heart rate, and irregular breathing. It promptly alerts authorities to signs of respiratory distress or other overdose symptoms.
The smartwatch also aids in monitoring the recovery progress of drug users post-treatment.
First Lieutenant Pharmacist Sarah Al Zarouni, a “foresight” expert at Sharjah Police, developed the device, which is supported by government and medical programmes.
