Separate Dubai Metro trips for Expo 2020 and UAE Exchange Metro stations from August 3

Separate Dubai Metro journeys for Expo 2020 and UAE Exchange Metro stations will begin on Saturday, August 3. In a post on X on Friday, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) declared the impending change.

This implies that in order to go to the UAE Exchange Metro Station or Expo 2020 Metro Station on the Red Line, travellers must ensure that they are boarding the correct train. It is expected that Metro station display panels would show the path of a train, therefore travellers are advised to confirm the information before boarding.

In April, the RTA said that the Dubai Metro Red Line will run a Y junction, which is the intersection of three railroads, to do away with the requirement for passengers to change trains at the Jabal Ali metro station. As a result, passengers travelling from Centrepoint to UAE Exchange and the other way around won't have to descend to Jabal Ali Interchange Station to change trains.

The Dubai Executive Council declared in June that further stations will be added in the upcoming years. By 2030, the development is expected to increase the number of operational stations from the present 64 across 84 square kilometres to 96 across 140 square kilometres. By 2040, it wants to have covered 140 stations across 228 square kilometres.

As per RTA, the objective of the Dubai Metro extension is to enhance the effectiveness and convenience of sustainable travel, lower carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per person, and raise the proportion of public transport to 45 per cent throughout the emirate.
