Second edition of the Sharjah Architecture Triennial champions creativity, innovation and resourceful use of design solutions

An architecture exhibition opened in Sharjah on Friday and included structures composed of recycled telephone poles, bamboo shoots, and unfinished building materials. The Sharjah Architecture Triennial, now in its second iteration, features installations in four different places around the emirate, celebrating originality, innovation, and ingenuity in architectural solutions.

In addition to being free to enter and accessible to all, the exhibition will feature kid-friendly programmes. Thirty architects, designers, and studios from twenty six nations will be featured in the triennial, which is curated by Lagos-based architect Tosin Oshinowo. It will be on exhibit around the emirate until March 10, 2024.

Through expansive installations, exhibits, critical discussions, and expanded public programming, the Triennial will explore how cultures of reuse, appropriation, cooperation, and adaptation might contribute to the creation of a future that is more resilient, sustainable, and egalitarian.

One of the exhibition's settings, Al Qasimiyah School, has tables and seats constructed out of bricks, sheets and other building materials from Sharjah Industrial Area. The curator claims that the exhibitors have been given instructions to reduce waste by using locally sourced materials and designing reusable exhibitions.
