Schools all around the United Arab Emirates are stepping up their privacy and cybersecurity education as the new school year gets underway, advising children not to take and post pictures on social media. Education institutions are stressing the serious repercussions of breaking UAE privacy regulations as more than a million students return to classes on August 26 following their summer vacation.
School districts are enforcing severe standards in an attempt to comply with the nation's tough privacy requirements. For educational purposes, several schools now require pupils to carry computers and tablets; mobile phones and tablets with SIM cards are not allowed. The purpose of this move is to protect students' privacy and reduce distractions.
Sharing personal information without permission is prohibited under Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 on Combating Rumours and Electronic Crimes. This includes sharing images or videos of an individual. Legal penalties may be imposed on violators, including children, but UAE law often takes a rehabilitative stance towards youngsters. Rather than severe punishments, this may entail measures like community service, probation, or electronic monitoring.
The judicial system in the United Arab Emirates prioritises protecting individual privacy and seeks to rehabilitate and educate rather than punish. Corrective methods for juveniles are outlined in Federal Law No. 6 of 2022 on Juvenile Delinquents and Juveniles at Risk. This law places more emphasis on reformative than punitive measures.
