Four traditional abra stations on Dubai Creek have been renovated by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The conventional abra stations have been updated, according to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, to improve the experience for abra passengers and increase security and safety at maritime transport stations used by 14 million riders yearly.
The project also sought to improve Bur Dubai Station's capacity by 33% and meet the standards of the Dubai Universal Design Code for People of Determination. The Old Dubai Souq and Al Sabkha stations will be developed by RTA in the fourth quarter of 2024. Work on the Deira Old Souq station has already begun.
