RTA’s smart screening vehicles will double by the end of 2023, for effective screening of number plates

The Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) smart screening system covers around 34% of Dubai's paid public parking spaces. Nine smart screening trucks are now in charge of keeping an eye on these slots; that number will rise to 18 by the end of 2023. When fully extended, the smart cars would occupy about 140,000 spots, or 70%, of Dubai's total paid parking spaces. Regardless of the type of parking spot, smart screening cars can keep an eye on and scan the licence plates of moving vehicles. By 2026, the RTA wants all road networks to be covered by intelligent traffic systems (ITS), up from the current 60%.

The RTA's major programmes and initiatives were assessed by Dubai's Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, at the time. The ITS Centre at Al Barsha, one of the biggest and most sophisticated traffic control centres in the world, was visited by the Crown Prince of Dubai. The facility, which is outfitted with several traffic monitoring and data-gathering tools, is essential to enabling Dubai's sophisticated traffic management systems to efficiently handle the fast development of the city's present and future road networks. The centre has considerably improved the city's traffic management since it opened in November 2020, resulting in a 20% travel time reduction, a 63% improvement in incident monitoring, and a 30% quicker reaction time.
