NewsDue to their accessibility and simplicity, e-scooters and bicycles have gained enormous popularity in the UAE. They are now frequently seen on the streets of the nation, whether they are travelling small distances or returning from the metro. To urge locals and visitors to ride bicycles and e-scooters on authorised tracks, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issued an advise on Sunday.
When using a bike or an e-scooter, be aware of the following 7 fines:
1. If you ride a bicycle or electric bicycle with a passenger, you must pay Dh200.
2. If you ride an e-scooter with a passenger, it costs Dh300.
3. Failing to wear the necessary helmet and safety equipment
4. Exceeding the RTA's posted speed restrictions on specified tracks—Dh100
5. If you ride a bicycle in a way that puts your life and others in danger, you will be fined $300.
6. Ignoring the navigational markings on the rails and roads Dh200
7. Children under 12 who bike without an adult in tow must pay Dh200
To help citizens obey the regulations and prevent fines, the RTA has posted a social media advice. Riders must follow authorised tracks and traffic regulations, and approved tracks in residential zones and on beaches have a 20 km/h speed limit.
Additionally, it is prohibited to ride an e-scooter with a passenger, and anybody under the age of 16 is only permitted to operate these vehicles. Children under 12 must also be accompanied by an adult.
