EventResidents of the UAE are in for a heavenly treat on Friday since they will get another chance to see the breathtaking grandeur of the sky.
On May 19, after 6:45 p.m., the crescent moon in Dubai will be illuminated by the much awaited "Da Vinci glow" phenomenon.
The fact that the phenomenon can be seen with the naked eye makes it all the more amazing since it enables locals to fully appreciate the crescent moon's mesmerizing splendour embellished with the "Da Vinci glow."
The moon's edge is illuminated by the "Da Vinci glow," also known as "Earthshine," a phenomena where a ghostly shine occurs. Leonardo da Vinci, who initially offered an explanation for it in the early 16th century, is honoured by the name of this occurrence.
However, this phenomenon can only be seen in a limited window of time just before and after dawn and sunset.
Earthshine offers useful information for determining the Earth's albedo, examining the makeup of the atmosphere, keeping track of climate change, and improving exoplanet characterization methods.
By enhancing equipment and cameras for lunar missions, earthshine observations are important historically and advance space exploration.
