December 2 and 3 were initially declared as paid holidays by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization. December 4 was then included (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday) as a holiday for workers in the private sector. Government employees will also be affected by this move and will have the same holiday break. On Friday, December 1, the day before the break, they will work from home. They will be off from December 2 to December 4. Government employees often have a half-day on Fridays. Everyone shall report back to work on Tuesday, December 5.
This arrangement guarantees an equal number of breaks for employees in the public and private sectors throughout the year. Every year on December 2, UAE National Day—also called UAE Union Day—celebrates the unification of the Emirates in 1971. The nation turns 52 this year.
