Prime Minister of UAE issues directives to establish the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of UAE, and Ruler of Dubai issued orders creating the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority, advancing the adoption of sustainable business practices across the board, protecting biodiversity, and enlarging the emirate's natural reserves and green areas. The project intends to strengthen Dubai's position in the international effort to tackle climate change and lay the groundwork for the green economy to thrive.

Additionally, the Dubai Ruler issued orders designating Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani as the organization's new director general. Dubai's Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, highlighted the city's dedication to being one of the greenest cities in the world and serving as a model for sustainable urban development. According to him, the newly created body supports the United Arab Emirates' goal of being carbon neutral by 2050.

According to Sheikh Mohammed, the recently established body will be entrusted with guaranteeing the greatest levels of sustainable development and biodiversity preservation in order to improve Dubai's readiness for the future. He went on to say that by 2033, Dubai wants to rank among the top 10 cities in the world in terms of resource and environmental sustainability.

The new organisation will carry out strategic initiatives to support Dubai's natural resource sustainability, maximise the use of regional resources, protect the emirate's biodiversity, hasten the growth of the green economy, and lessen carbon emissions.
