Plans for a tram project that crosses Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road (E311), one of the busiest thoroughfares in the Emirate, have been revealed by a Dubai-based urban planning and development company. One million trees would be planted throughout the 64 kilometre corridor, creating "urban farms and gardens."

According to the chief executive of the company behind the project, the "Dubai Green Spine" is still in the idea stage and "remains a vision," as reported by Khaleej Times. "An official presentation has not yet been made to authorities," URB CEO Baharash Bagherian stated.

With around 25 tram stations, the project is expected to cost $10 billion. If approved, it might be finished in four stages over a ten-year period. According to Bagherian, "the project will cover a 64-kilometer stretch from Dubai Industrial City to Muhaisnah."

A 300 megawatt solar energy system would be used to power the trams entirely.

The tramway, which was supposed to be the centrepiece of the Green Spine, would have solar panels built right into the rails.

The project would include native plant-lined cycling and pedestrian lanes that "offer natural cooling and cleaner air."

The Green Spine would also have mixed-use properties that combine commercial, recreational, and residential community features.

Urban agricultural projects such as communal allotments and vertical farms that allow locals to produce their own food will be introduced under the project, according to the business.
