The authorities in Dubai have underlined that those who have overstayed and want to leave the country must apply for visa amnesty in the emirate where their residency was granted.
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) stated in a statement that in order to exit the UAE, holders of residencies issued in other emirates must travel to the original emirate.
After regularizing their status, those who want to stay in Dubai can get in touch with the emirate. "They can follow up on amending their status with Dubai Residency, regardless of their file with the other emirates, if they wish to remain in the country and obtain a job opportunity in the Emirate of Dubai," the statement continued.
This order is a part of the current amnesty policy, which attempts to help overstayers obtain work or leave the country by helping them regularize their status.
