New project announced on the Al Khail road improvement; five bridges to be constructed, eliminating traffic congestion along the highway

Al Khail Road in Dubai will see a 30% reduction in travel time as part of a new Dh700 million project that was unveiled on Sunday. Five bridges will be built as part of the Al Khail road rehabilitation project, removing traffic jams along the route.

There will be road improvement projects at Zabeel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle, among other places. The project's contract has been given out.

One of the main thoroughfares in Dubai, Al Khail Road has six lanes in each direction and runs from the Business Bay crossing to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) chairman and director-general Mattar Al Tayer said that the upgrading project would increase the capacity of roads that support and run parallel to Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, and Emirates highways.

The following area will be benefitting from the new project:

Al Jaddaf: The addition of an extra lane will improve traffic flow towards Deira, thereby increasing the capacity of the route by about 2,000 cars per hour.

Jumeirah Village Circle between Hessa and Al Khamila streets: The construction project include a two-lane bridge project that will connect Al Khail Road with Hessa Street traffic. This will improve traffic flow from Al Khail Road towards Deira to the Jumeirah Village Circle.

Business Bay: The road at the entrance will be enlarged by adding an extra lane to provide a better flow from Al Khail Road to the Business Bay region.

Meydan between Al Meydan and Ras Al Khor roads’ intersections: It also deals with building a two-lane bridge that will connect traffic on Al Meydan Road with Al Khail Road, heading towards Deira. To connect the traffic travelling from Al Khail Road to Ras Al Khor Road, new roads will be built.

Zabeel, specially Oud Metha Street and Financial Centre Street intersections: This entails building a three-lane bridge to connect Oud Metha Road and Zabeel Palace Street with Al Khail Road, which leads straight to Abu Dhabi. Additionally, improvements will be made to the roads that connect Al Khail Road traffic headed towards Financial Centre Street with Sheikh Zayed Road traffic coming from that direction.

Ghadeer Al Tair between the intersections of Al Meydan Road and Latifa bint Hamdan Street: A two-lane bridge will be built to connect traffic from Latifa Bint Hamdan Street onto Al Khail Road in the direction of Deira, Additionally, it will facilitate the connection of traffic travelling from Al Khail Road to Al Meydan Road.

Al Quoz 1 between the intersections of Al Meydan Road and Al Waha Street: A two-lane bridge must be built in order to connect traffic from Al Meydan Road onto Al Khail Road heading towards Abu Dhabi. Traffic from Al Khail Road to Al Waha Street and Latifa bint Hamdan Street will be thus better-connected.
