New headquarters of the Arabic Language Council in Nouakchott, Mauritania, was inaugurated on Monday

Under the auspices of Mauritania's President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, as well as thanks to the contributions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, Member of the Supreme Council, and Supreme President of the Arabic Language Academy (ALA) in Sharjah, the new headquarters of the Arabic Language Council was officially opened on Monday in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

The event was emceed by Ahmed Sid Ahmed Dié, the Minister of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Relations with Parliament for Mauritius. He expressed appreciation to Sheikh Dr. Sultan for his kind donation. By assembling a distinguished group of academics committed to this admirable goal, the Academy in Mauritania will foster the growth of the Arabic language in the country and beyond.

A number of prominent media and diplomatic personalities, together with the leaders of Arab language academies, also attended the occasion. The Ruler of Sharjah sent a message to the linguists and researchers in Mauritania through Mohamed Hassan Khalaf, who is the Director-General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority and a member of the ALA Board of Trustees. In addition, he discussed the value of funding significant scientific initiatives and ongoing campaigns to strengthen the Arabic language around the globe, emphasising the close ties between the United Arab Emirates and Mauritania.

The two-story new headquarters is made of environmentally friendly materials and has a large library, study halls, conference rooms, and various administrative offices. Al Qasimiya Hall, a space for lectures and gatherings, is attached to the main structure. A mosque with space for over 300 worshippers is also located at the headquarters.

Located in the University district on land donated by the Mauritanian government, the Ruler of Sharjah paid for the whole building and furnishings of this important institution.
