His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and the Ruler of Dubai has dannounced the opening of a new edition of the Arab Hope Makers initiative, a pan-Arab endeavor that honors and celebrates those who are genuinely improving their communities around the Arab world. Arab Hope Makers is the biggest program of its kind, honoring Arab institutions and people through charitable endeavors aimed at enhancing lives. The program honors humanitarian endeavors that work to alleviate the suffering of those in need, empower underrepresented groups, and address issues that communities face in a variety of sectors. It celebrates Hope Makers—people who invest their time and energy into promoting constructive change in their communities without expecting recognition or personal benefit in return.
In 2017, the Arab Hope Makers initiative was introduced under the auspices of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, a foundation established in the United Arab Emirates that integrates a variety of development, social, humanitarian, and empowerment organizations and initiatives. It puts into practice Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's mission to inspire Arab youth to actively participate in determining their own destiny, combat pessimism and despair, and disseminate hope.
Arab individuals, volunteer groups, or non-profit organizations worldwide are welcome to self-nominate or submit public nominations for the program. Following a number of evaluation phases and field trips that gauge the extent and impact of their social humanitarian endeavors, five finalists are chosen. Before receiving Dh1 million to fund their humanitarian endeavors, each contender gets honored in a lavish ceremony held in Dubai.
