MoHRE issues warning due to bad weather, private sector companies to adopt flexible work, school remain closed

Storms from overnight are still raging across the UAE today, Friday, November 17, so schools have closed and private sector businesses are being asked to provide their staff flexible work schedules. Beginning early on November 17 and lasting into the morning, there was thunder and lightning.

The MoHRE issued a warning Friday night, urging private sector enterprises to let employees to work flexibly due to the present weather circumstances, considering the adverse weather prediction.

"Companies must take the necessary steps to ensure that outdoor work, which is necessary to resume, complies with the occupational health and safety requirements," the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MoHRE) stated in a statement that was released on X, the old Twitter.

The Ministry said, "Companies also need to ensure the health and safety of workers commuting to and from outdoor work locations."

Police in Dubai issued a rare public safety notice to citizens' phones at 6:27 a.m. today, cautioning vehicles to exercise caution and avoid beaches and regions vulnerable to flash floods. Parents have received notifications from several schools and daycare centres informing them that classes are cancelled due to inclement weather.

Remaining water caused problems for the city's roads on Friday morning, causing roundabouts in residential and commercial districts to flood as well as underpasses that connected routes to the major thoroughfares. Trucks have been dispatched as soon as possible to remove water, demonstrating how quickly city authorities have responded. The rain is expected to ease by afternoon hours.
