The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on X on Friday that as of August 17, the minimum top-up for a Nol card at Metro station ticket offices will be Dh50, up from Dh20. Nevertheless, commuters who top off their cards online are exempt from this.
"Starting August 17, 2024, the minimum top-up at Metro station ticket offices will increase to AED 50," according to the article by the RTA.
RTA raised the minimum top-up from Dh5 to Dh20 in January.
Commuters should have Dh15 balance on their Nol card to cover a round-trip fare on the Metro transit system.
The Nol card is a prepaid smart card that may be used to pay for buses, trams, waterbuses, and the Dubai Metro, among other forms of public transportation. In addition, it can be used to cover parking costs, taxi fares, admission to public parks in Dubai, the Etihad Museum, and a host of over 2,000 eateries, retail establishments, and shops throughout the city.
