NewsAccording to Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), the company has developed its projects over the past 17 years, producing more than 20 gigawatts (GW) in 40 nations on six continents.
On the occasion of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) at Expo City Dubai, Al Ramahi stated that the company began with the launch of a 10-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, and then launched the 100MW Shams renewable energy project in 2013 as the first concentrated solar power plant in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
In line with the UAE's strategic goals to guarantee energy security, diversify its energy sources, and become carbon neutral by 2050, it then doubled its capacities by 200 times with the opening of the 2,000 MW Al Dhafra Solar PV Plant.
According to Masdar's CEO, the company's present project portfolio is worth more than Dh110 billion. According to him, these initiatives help reduce carbon emissions by 30 million tonnes a year, which is the same as putting 6.5 million cars off the road or powering 5.25 million houses.
As it works to expand its portfolio to boost its total production capacity and exceed its 100GW by 2030 target and double that going forward, Masdar is working to consolidate its position as a leading global company in the fields of renewable energy and green hydrogen, which Al Ramahi highlighted. He continued by saying that the corporation has set a goal to create one million tonnes of green hydrogen yearly by 2020.
In the same way that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country's founding father, was eager to incorporate sustainability into the country's culture and community and devoted his life to creating a sustainable future for future generations, Al Ramahi observed that the UAE has made environmental protection and sustainability central to its government and society since its founding.
