Integrated project "Tasreef," has been announced to develop a rain drainage network in Dubai

According to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, an integrated project of Dh30 billion has been approved to create a rain drainage network in Dubai. This announcement was made on Monday. The project, known as "Tasreef," will increase Dubai's rainfall drainage system's capacity by 700% and cover the whole emirate.

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin soon and is expected to be finished by 2033. Sheikh Mohammed continued, "It will serve Dubai for the next hundred years." The project is expected to be the biggest rainwater collection network in the region, covering the entirety of Dubai and absorbing approximately 20 million cubic meters of water daily.

"Tasreef" is an extension of Dubai's 2019 drainage projects, which encompass Jebel Ali, Al Maktoum International Airport City, and the Expo Dubai area. About two months have passed since the UAE was inundated by unusually heavy rainfall. By creating a network that can easily adjust to any rainfall event, this sustainable strategic project seeks to mitigate future climate change impacts, such as increasing rainfall.

The project will make use of the newest Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM), the biggest in the Middle East, which are renowned for their speed, efficiency, and extreme precision in excavation as well as their adaptability to a variety of topographical circumstances.
