Individuals using e-scooters in the UAE are to abide by rules and take proper precautions in hot weather

According to doctors in the UAE, it's critical for people who ride e-scooters to take the appropriate measures in hot weather to prevent sunburn and dehydration.

Due to its ability to provide a pleasant, open-air ride, electric scooters have grown to be an increasingly popular mode of transportation, especially during the summer.

Many people are increasingly adopting it as a realistic transportation option, especially for short distances, to deal with the heat during everyday journeys.

Despite being a unique, cutting-edge, and quickly growing mode of transportation, doctors advise taking frequent stops to cool down in shady locations throughout the sweltering summer months.

Human beings regularly lose water via their skin and sweat, especially when exposed to extreme temperatures, therefore staying hydrated is equally crucial.

Meanwhile, the Enterprise Command and Control Centre (EC3) of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai (Dubai) established a comprehensive monitoring platform to incorporate bicycles, e-scooters, and other non-motorized modes of transportation. The project uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to make commuting easier and improve traffic safety while crossing lanes set aside for pedestrians and bicycles.

However, it is also the individual duty of e-scooter riders to remember a few rider safety standards:

  • E-scooter riders must be 16 years or above.
  • Riders must wear a protective helmet with appropriate gear, including knee bumpers and reflective clothing. Also, the riders must use a powerful front light for night-time rides.
  • The speed at which e-scooters can travel within certain communities in Dubai has been limited to 20 km per hour.
  • Users should avoid using e-scooters on roads and instead use designated pathways for bicycles and e-scooters. Avoid using them on jogging and walking tracks to prevent potential accidents with pedestrians.
  • Riders must ensure that they maintain a safe distance from other e-scooters and bicycles and avoid obstructing pedestrians or vehicles.
  • It is advised not to carry anything that could cause an imbalance during the ride, not even carry any passenger.
  • It is mandatory for riders to adhere to the regulations and traffic laws especially when riding within communities.
  • It is important to remember to get off the e-scooter when approaching a pedestrian crossing.
  • Riders are prohibited from stunts/rash riding.
  • Users must park only in designated areas and no blocking entrances and ramps.
