Drivers in Dubai are required to make sure their licence plates are legible and clear. There are severe penalties of up to Dh3,000 and a staggering 23 black points on your licence for driving without a licence plate or with a damaged one.
Residents can request a lost certificate from Dubai Police, which covers not only missing licence plates but also other critical papers including passports, Emirates IDs, driver's licences, etc.
Details and Documents required:
- If the number plate is lost - A letter from your company or institution in Arabic containing the specifics of the misplaced licence plate is required
- Either your passport, gender, date of birth, nationality, and email address, or your Emirates ID and email address, will be required.
Process to get lost certificate:
- Complete the online application found on the Dubai Police app. Input your details, the category of item lost, time, date, and place of the loss.
- Remit Dh50 for the service and an additional Dh20 for the knowledge and innovation cost. If you mail the application in person through the service centres, there will be an extra Dh100 charge. You may make cash payments at these locations and smart police stations. Moreover, you can pay digitally with a card.
- You can submit your request after making payment. You will then obtain a transaction number through email and SMS, that you may use to monitor and inquire about the status of your request.
- You will receive an email with your missing certificate and receipt when your application has been completed. It is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance.
