A new app from the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) makes it much simpler to seek VAT refunds. Since everything is done online, travellers are no longer needed to save their printed purchase receipts in order to receive a refund.
The new software, Tourist Refund, was shown at the Gitex Global trade show taking place in Dubai.
"The app may be downloaded by visitors via Planet, a company that provides FTA services. The vendor scans the invoice and records it in the app when a visitor purchases something from the UAE shop. According to Zahra Al Dahmani, head of the Taxpayer Services Department at FTA, "the recently launched application will have information on each transaction he bought as well as the amount of VAT he can claim upon exiting the country."
