Face Recognition Technology; Passport or boarding pass not required at Zayed International Airport
17 Oct 2024
NewsFrom baggage check-in to clearing immigration, you don't need to pick up your passport or boarding pass even once at Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport. You would need to show your face instead. Officials said that the new face recognition technology has already been introduced at the airport.
At JITEX Global 2024, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) outlines how Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport is using facial recognition to make travel easier. The airport currently uses facial recognition systems at immigration e-gates and self-check-in kiosks. The system will soon be extended to duty-free zones as well, officials said. This will help the passengers to buy the necessary items here without showing the boarding pass.
The new terminals and upgraded technology at Sheikh Zayed International Airport have made it possible to replace the traditional passport scanning system with a facial recognition system.
