Electricity rates will be reduced for some industrial companies in the Northern Emirates

As part of a number of initiatives to spur growth, the Northern Emirates' authorities said on Wednesday that some industrial enterprises would see a reduction in electricity bills. New pricing categories and an updated incentive program were revealed by the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (Ewec), which would lower electricity bills for businesses that meet a certain consumption threshold.

According to a report on the state-run news agency Wam, the new prices for people who consume power exceeding 10,000 megawatt hours per month start at 32 fils per kilowatt hour and might fall as low as 26 fils per kilowatt hour.

Other incentives included in the new system are as follows:

- Variable costs for the installation services

- Absence of insurance costs

- There are no extra costs to use the metre.

In addition to industrial businesses, the technology sector—which includes disaster recovery data centers (DRDs)—will also be subject to the new price structure. When an organization's primary data center fails, these hubs offer vital backup capabilities that can be used to rebuild and recover technology infrastructure.

The project was introduced on Wednesday, during the 'Make in the Emirates' forum's third session.

Undersecretary of the authority Omar Al Suwaidi stated that the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology has been collaborating with its partners to increase incentives and strengthen the capacities of businesses in the industrial sector.
