Electric vehicle charging stations company to be established in UAE

A company to build electric car charging stations will be based in the United Arab Emirates, it was revealed on Sunday. This occurred at the UAE Cabinet's COP28 meeting in Expo City Dubai. The company will manage the construction of the infrastructure needed to charge electric cars, manage daily station operations, and create a charging service pricing plan.

The country earlier this year established a national policy on electric vehicles to meet the demands of electric car owners and control the market for these vehicles in the UAE,. This policy calls for the construction of a nationwide network of chargers. Twenty percent less energy will be used in the transport industry thanks to the strategy.

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure established a target in May 2023 to encourage the transition to green mobility, with the ultimate objective of having 50% of all cars on UAE roads being electric by the year 2050. The UAE Cabinet examined a paper on Sunday that examined the true cost of charging electric cars in the nation. The UAE Cabinet meeting was presided over by HisHighness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, in Expo City Dubai in connection with COP28.

Along with adopting the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (Corsia), it also approved several strategies to reach climate neutrality, such as the UAE National Energy Strategy 2050, the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050, and the National Electric Vehicles Policy. The National Guidelines for UAE Biosecurity (2023–2022), the National Strategy to Combat Desertification (2022–2030), the National Green Building Regulation, and the Technical Regulation Measuring Air Quality were all adopted by the UAE Cabinet.

The UAE promised to investing an extra $50 billion over the following ten years, and it spent over $50 billion in renewable energy projects across 70 nations, ranking second globally in the Energy Transition pillar of the Green Future Index (GFI) 2023.

The National Biodiversity Strategy 2031 framework was also approved at the meeting. It addresses the rehabilitation and restoration of 80% of degraded land and marine areas, the preservation of at least 21% of land and marine ecosystems, and the improvement of 10% of the status of native species that are endangered.
