NewsA senior official from the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC)-Abu Dhabi announced that the Capital's green public transport service will debut with a fleet of electric and hydrogen-powered buses starting next month during "The Journey to Net Zero Forum" on Tuesday.
According to Anan Alamri, department head of ITC's Alternative Sustainable Mobility, Public Transport Affairs Sector, Abu Dhabi aims to make 20 percent of its public transport green by 2030 and 100 percent environmentally friendly by 2050. This includes the introduction of zero-emission buses.
Alamri did not disclose how many buses and which routes the electric and hydrogen-powered buses will run, but she did state that the vehicles will exclusively run in Abu Dhabi and that the bus fee will not change. Additionally, she mentioned that the bus terminals already had charging stations set up.
Hydrogen and electric buses don't release greenhouse gases or other dangerous pollutants like conventional fossil fuel buses do. In example, hydrogen buses only release water vapour.
