Eco-friendly LED lighting to illuminate the roads in Dubai heading to the airport

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has replaced 2,000 outdated lighting fixtures with LED lighting that uses less energy. The project's scope is 19.5 km long and provides 16 lanes on the Airport and Al Ittihad Roads in each direction. In accordance with the best methods for energy saving and in support of the green economy, RTA is eager to make its assets more sustainable. Such initiatives aid in fostering a healthy environment and sustainable growth in Dubai and the rest of the UAE.

The effort to upgrade the lights on Airport and Al Ittihad Roads took close to six months. Reengineering was done to the lighting units' operating system to incorporate highly effective, ecologically friendly, and sustainable illumination. According to Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, the initiative demonstrates RTA's dedication to implementing the most cutting-edge methods for maximising the usage of assets, prolonging their lifespan, and reducing energy consumption across the lighting network.

The energy consumption of conventional lighting units is reduced by 55% when using LED technology, and the lifespan of newer streetlamps can be increased by up to 173%. The new lights have a lifespan of 60,000 hours specifically, as opposed to the 22,000 hours that standard bulbs typically have. As a result, it lowers the frequency of light replacements as well as maintenance and operational expenses. In comparison to conventional bulbs, it also minimises energy loss and heat emission by 20%. It not only improves the lamp system's operational effectiveness but also boosts the effectiveness of the energy grid used to light Dubai's streets. By utilising the most recent, clever, and creative technology that are adapted to the climatic conditions of the UAE, RTA continuously works to improve Dubai's road lighting systems, increasing its commitment to sustainability.
