e-Call system aims at cutting the response time of emergency services by 40 percent

To reduce emergency service response times by forty percent, the UAE Cabinet on Tuesday authorised technical standards for the e-Call system, which enhances emergency communications in vehicles.

When in-vehicle sensors identify a major collision, the e-Call system, fitted in some cars, alerts the authorities by emergency message. The kind of gasoline, location, number of passengers, and make and model of the car are among the details.

The e-Call system was initially implemented in Abu Dhabi in 2021, and its current update aims to reduce severe injury cases by 2 to 15 percent and the road fatality toll by 2 to 10 percent.

Additionally, it functions by offering the fastest response time—four minutes—for emergency calls.

The UAE Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) in conjunction with police authorities developed the e-Call system, also known as Fazaa. The former Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology was eventually merged into the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology.

AML (Advanced Machine Location) was a similar technology that was first made available by Dubai Police and allowed mobile phones to alert the authorities following a collision. The e-Call technology allows the automobile to make calls, however, in the event of AML, a passenger had to contact 999 for the information to be processed. By manually pressing a button, it may also be turned on.

Officers in the operations room place a call via the system to inquire on the passengers' consciousness after the accident report is submitted. In a matter of minutes, a rescue crew will be sent to the scene of the accident.
