Dubai will progressively replace its traditional buses in four locations across the city, with electric ones. In addition to acquiring buses that run on batteries, Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA's Public Transport Agency stated that the RTA will see to it that the infrastructure required for electric charging is put in place. At first, four specific routes—Business Bay, Al Ghubaiba, Al Satwa, and Al Jafiliya—will be served by electric buses.
The RTA said last month that Raqeeb, a driver behaviour monitoring system, will be installed on new buses "to monitor and improve driver conduct." An automatic passenger counting (APC) system will also be used to deter fare evasion. Actual passenger counts are recorded by the system and compared to the automated fare collection.
