News EventThis weekend, Dubai Sports City will play home to the grand final of the Inclusive Padel Tour (IPT). Athletes with impairments can participate competitively in an amazing demonstration of collaboration at this unusual sports festival. The tournament, which is making its UAE debut, will take place on November 18 at Inspiratus Sports Direct (ISD) Padel in Dubai's Sports City and will include 20 competitors from across the world who are able-bodied and 20 athletes with determination.
IPT is a unique competition that brings together those with and without disabilities to participate in and enjoy the sport together.
IPT was founded by Italian Alessandro Ossola, a paralympic athlete on the Italian National Athletics Team and head of the Bionic People Association. Its goal is to promote padel as an inclusive sport across the world. Ossola lost his left leg in a bicycle accident in 2015. He uses a prosthesis to walk, run, and participate in sports today and hopes that sports will become more inclusive for athletes of all abilities in the future.
The circuit's history started in 2021 when Ossola saw that Padel may develop into the inclusive sport of the future by including just one rebound for players with impairments following a game. After preparing and playing for several months, he started the first Italian Inclusive Padel Tour.
Players from many nations such as Italy, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, and more are integral to the inclusive attitude that the padel tour embodies. A clinic featuring international padel athletes and the kids of Heroes of Hope, a non-profit organisation for determined individuals located in the United Arab Emirates, will take place the day before the festival.
