Dubai’s trial four-day work week with shorter hours for government employees to conclude this week

This week marks the conclusion of Dubai's trial four-day workweek, with reduced working hours for government employees. The declaration was made as part of the emirate's pilot program to introduce flexible work schedules for government workers in Dubai over the sweltering summer months.

The Dubai Government Human Resources Department announced the eight-week "Our Summer is Flexible" campaign early on Wednesday, August 7, via the UAE BARQ.

From Monday, August 12 through Monday, September 30, employees of fifteen federal agencies worked fewer hours from Monday through Thursday, and they took advantage of more than a month of three-day weekends.

During the trial phase, government employees will work just seven hours a day, four days a week, with Fridays being an extra day off.

DGHR performed a poll prior to the launch to find out what different government agencies thought and if they would be open to reducing working hours in the summer.

Additionally, the authority will evaluate the input it receives every month in order to provide a final report that summarises the department's suggestions, the initiative's results, and its adaptability to different government agencies.

Summer working hours in the private sector are set by individual companies, some of which have previously established them.
