With its Super Block program, Dubai is taking steps to create car-free zones and livable, sustainable residential communities. Aiming to change neighborhoods by giving priority to bikes and pedestrians, the program was unveiled on Thursday as part of the city's larger aim for a greener future.
Al Fahidi, Abu Hail, Al Karama, and Al Quoz Creative Zone are residential districts that will be transformed into pro-pedestrian zones in order to improve the quality of life by creating more green spaces and encouraging social connections through communal public recreational facilities.
The Super Block concept was unveiled on X by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense. According to the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the project aims to improve infrastructure and foster a more sustainable, greener urban environment.
