Dubai’s skyline to be illuminated by spectacular display of 800 drones soaring hundreds of metres above

An amazing show of 800 drones flying hundreds of metres above Dubai's skyscrapers will light up the night sky every evening, producing an amazing sight, up until January 14, 2024.

The free drone show at the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) this year has two brand-new displays that will transport spectators on a fantastical voyage through Dubai's history, telling an enthralling tale of the city's modest origins and the thrilling possibilities it has ahead of it. The drones lift off from Skydive Dubai, producing a symphony of hues and forms.

Many hours have gone into the planning and programming to guarantee that tens of thousands of visitors will experience the wonder and be amazed by the seemingly endless possibilities of Dubai's future through this enthralling aerial presentation.

According to Kaltham Alshamsi, Senior Associate, Events Planning, Festivals & Events, at DFRE, the 2024 team plans and executes the 38-day extravaganza over the course of nearly 11 months, with the next DSF beginning as soon as the previous one concludes. The most exciting aspect was the addition of hundreds more drones to the event this year, compared to 500 drones the previous year and 300 drones when the drone display was initially added to the DSF schedule four years ago.

This year's two exhibitions are entwined in a riveting way by a storyline that tells the tale of Dubai's rich past. It starts with the importance of pearls, which were crucial to the emirate's and the UAE's overall success. The drone displays, which seamlessly transition between different scenes, present a vibrant vision of Dubai's ambitious future, complete with flying and electric automobiles as well as thriving global trade. Famous storyteller and animator Mohammed Saeed Harib has partnered to contribute his artistic skills to the first drone performance, adding even more enchantment. His input has shaped a "fairytale" motif that masterfully depicts the culture of the Emirati people and Dubai's modest beginnings as a pearl-diving country.

Advanced technology allows the audience to be fully immersed in the tale and fully integrated into the 3D light display.

Residents and tourists to Dubai will see a sight to behold this year, according to the technical team of SKYMAGIC Drone Shows, who collaborated closely with DSF organisers to bring the drone show to reality. Mohammed Saeed Harib is an accomplished cartoonist, animator, and storyteller. His works include animated series, action films, and the creation of the Freej and EXPO 2023 Dubai mascots.
