Dubais RTA to roll out AI-powered patrol vehicles to monitor delivery riders across the city for road safety

AI-powered patrol cars will soon be deployed by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to screen delivery riders across the city and enforce adherence to traffic regulations. The first five roaming cars, each with six smart cameras providing a 360-degree view of the road, will be put into service early next year to keep an eye on more than 45,000 delivery riders every day around Dubai.

The RTA head of licencing activities, Essa AlAmiri, made this revelation to Khaleej Times at Gitex Global on Monday. The delivery riders who are not wearing the appropriate uniform or protective gear may be quickly identified by the smart patrols thanks to their high-definition cameras. They may also come across motorbikes that are parked in forbidden zones and in between moving automobiles, or that are operating in the left-most lane, which is designated for swift cars.

Motorcycles without reflector strips and those having passengers or pillion riders in the rear will also be identified and subject to penalties. We'll also keep an eye out for any harm done to the reflector strips or delivery box.

AlAmiri stated that the smart patrol will contribute to a five-fold increase in daily inspections and a one-minute reduction in inspection time. This is so that RTA inspectors won't need to personally inspect the delivery riders thanks to the smart camera. Any infraction will be immediately reported to the delivery business by the RTA monitoring centre, which will verify the data collected by smart patrols.

AlAmiri also mentioned that the smart patrol would be used to make a traffic load heat map, which will provide a comprehensive visual representation of the traffic condition on Dubai roads at any given time, in addition to gathering data and tracking and documenting the actions of delivery riders.
