NewsOn Sunday, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that it had given a Dh689 million contract for the expansion of Hessa Street, which would quadruple its capacity. With the addition of the project, there will be an increase in lanes from two to four in each direction, allowing 8,000 cars per hour in each direction. The construction of a 13.5-kilometer bike track is another aspect of the project's activities.
Hessa Street serves as a vital link between Dubai's three main thoroughfares, Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road. Additionally, it links a number of well-known neighbourhoods in New Dubai, including Al Barsha, JVC, Al Sufouh, and Dubai Sports City. From Sheikh Zayed Road's intersection to Al Khail Road's intersection, the project is 4.5 kilometres long. Four major crossroads along Hessa Street—Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road—are being renovated as part of this project.
Two bridges will be part of the proposed bike route. The first bridge spans Sheikh Zayed Road, while the second spans Al Khail Road. Both spans are 5 metres wide, with 3 metres designated for bikes and e-scooters and the final two metres reserved for pedestrians. The Al Khail Road bridge's distinctive geometric style was influenced by its surroundings.
