Dubai RTA introduces a prototype e-bike targeting delivery companies to switch to eco-friendly electric bikes

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiled a prototype e-bike on Thursday, hoping to encourage delivery services to switch to more environmentally friendly electric bikes. According to Al Muhairi, in order to encourage businesses to adopt environmentally friendly, green transportation options, RTA worked with industry professionals "to research and develop a prototype e-bike model befitting the job nature of delivery business." Additionally, e-bike charging stations are to be installed all around Dubai.

The switch to e-bikes would "cut operational costs by reducing dependence on fossil fuels," according to Al Muhairi. Although the RTA did not release the e-bikes' specs, the black and white e-bikes appear to feature the same step-through frame and smaller wheels as the scooters with strong motors that range in size from 50 to 125 cm³. In addition to having lights, turn signals, and horns, scooters typically feature automatic gearboxes. They are more mobile than mopeds and can reach greater peak speeds.

According to Al Muhairi, the RTA aims to provide more efficient and environmentally friendly services in line with Dubai Vision 2030's 30% carbon emission reduction targets. Additionally, this programme is taking place in 2023, the Year of Sustainability. The switch to e-bikes would "cut operational costs by reducing dependence on fossil fuels," according to Al Muhairi.
