The Dubai Police will henceforth confiscate cars for a maximum of 30 days for many traffic infractions. Mobile phone use while driving, tailgating, and abrupt deviation are among the infractions that result in a 30-day car seizure.
According to the federal traffic legislation, these offenses carry four black points and fines ranging from Dh400 to Dh1,000. The 30-day impoundment will be an extra penalty in Dubai as a result of this new legal revision.
Driving while distracted by a gadget is known as "phone driving." A 30-day impoundment will also be imposed for abruptly veering off course in a way that endangers people or property, or for failing to maintain a safe distance from the car in front.
If a heavy vehicle disregards lane discipline, the same extra penalty is imposed.
The amendment also stipulated that some offenses would be subject to 14-day impoundment:
- Getting on the road without checking to make sure it's clear
- Reversing the car in a way that endangers people, property, or transportation safety
- The lack of discipline in the lanes
- Halting without cause in the middle of the road
- Perilous overtaking
- The vehicle's lack of the essential safety and security features
- Stopping a car on the side of the road when it's not an emergency or passing other cars on the shoulder
- Driving vehicle without a license plate
- Driving vehicle in a way that impedes traffic
- Altering the vehicle's color without authorization
