On December 31, starting at 4 p.m., the Dubai Police will begin closing roads in preparation for the New Year, a top official announced on Wednesday. Visitors and locals planning to visit the Downtown area and other famous destinations are encouraged by Abdul Rehman Obaid Juma Al Falasi of the Dubai Police's traffic department to start their journeys early and take public transit.
The closure of roads at all locations will start at about 4pm on December 31.
- Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard will start closing at 4pm
- Upper level of the Financial Road will be closed at 8 pm and the lower level at 4pm
- Al Asayel Road will also be closed at 4 pm
These highways will all have their traffic rerouted into Sheikh Zayed Road.
The event committee's security and action plan have 32 places marked. These consist of Festival City, Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, and Hatta, among others.
Three months ago, the Event Preparation Committee began working on the New Year's Eve plan. To date, it has held many meetings with all its partners, including the Roads and Transport Authority, Civil Defence, and Dubai Corporation for Ambulance. The committee is comprised of fifty-five partners, both external and internal.
